FAQs

What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is based on applying scientific fact to enhancing your body's own remarkable resources. These important self-regulating and self-healing functions are controlled by your brain, spinal cord, and nerves. When the nervous system is impaired through illness, injury or stress it can cause tissues and organs throughout the body to function poorly. A poorly functioning nervous system is an underlying cause of many health problems. Chiropractic care is not only effective in the treatment of back and neck ailments, but can also provide effective relief for a number of other seemingly "non-spinal" conditions. Chiropractic has successfully helped millions of individuals with all sorts of health conditions through a hands-on, drug-free health care approach for a healthier lifestyle.
What is a Subluxation?
Subluxation is a restriction of one or more of your spinal bones (vertebrae), which causes interference to your nervous system. If your nervous system is not flowing freely, your body's natural ability to heal itself and function at its optimum potential becomes impaired. A spinal restriction is a perfect example of how structure affects function.
What is an Adjustment?
When performing an adjustment the Doctor applies a precisely directed force to a joint that is restricted or not moving properly. Restoring normal motion to joints can allow bones to gradually return to a more proper position and your body to function as it should. It is a safe, natural approach to removing interferences with the spinal and nervous system function and can improve your overall health. At Bourdage Chiropractic, all adjustments are performed with a hands-on technique. This allows the Doctor to be able to receive feedback regarding the tissues and muscles of the body.
What does an Adjustment feel like?
Chiropractic adjustments feel great. Most patients look forward to their treatments as many experience instantaneous relief immediately afterwards stating that it is a highlight of their day. When you allow the vertebrae in your spine to return to their proper position, you will notice much less stress and tension.
Is Chiropractic Care Safe?
Chiropractic treatments are extremely safe and have an excellent safety record. Treatments used are natural and non-invasive methods of care. Of the millions of people receiving chiropractic adjustments, it is extremely rare to hear of a problem resulting from chiropractic care. Chiropractic doctors are highly trained in the diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue injuries and abnormalities common to the spine, extremities and rest of the body and practice and perform hundreds to thousands of manipulations before delivering them to a patient. To become a Doctor of Chiropractic, the candidate must first pass the demanding National Board Examination. Then, to apply for a professional license the Doctor must pass an even more rigorous test before winning the privilege to practice.
Is Chiropractic for Everyone?
All ages can enjoy healthier living through chiropractic care. For seniors, improved spinal function can mean better mobility, endurance, appetite, and an improvement in many age-related ailments. Children and even infants can benefit because spinal trauma can occur at birth and later with certain childhood activities. When the body is changing through growth or through aging, maintaining good spinal and nervous system health is especially important.
